one man audiences just can’t refuse.
Piolo is one of the busiest actors in Asia.
Piolo also sings. It’s a little difficult telling how good a singer he
is, what with the way his voice is being drowned out by the deafening
screams of his fans. But music industry heavies believe in his
potential. His eponymous debut album is quickly turning gold. But he hastens to add that a follow-up is not in the works yet. In fact, it may take a
while before he goes back to the recording studios.
Rafael Rossel is half-Filipino, half-Norwegian. His smiling face and sculpted body will be seen in ” Bikini Open,” a sex comedy starring Diana Zubiri.
“I arrived in 2001 and spoke no Tagalog. I’m proud to say I speak it fluently in my upcoming movie,” says Rafael.
“My first big break was a Close-Up toothpaste commercial,” he recalled. “Then I joined ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Batch 9 with Michelle Bayle and Luis Alandy. My first movie was \’Kung Ikaw ay Isang Panaginip’ with Jolina Magdangal for Star Cinema.”
He is the eldest in a brood of three, all boys. His family lives in Abu Dhabi but visits Rafael often in his rented studio near the ABS-CBN compound. He says they are all very supportive of his career.
“My best experience in acting was the teleserye ‘Marina,’ where I played the mortal boyfriend of Gretchen Baretto. I came in on Week 8, and I initially felt like an outsider,” he recounts.
The Eastwood Park Hotel & Residential Suites stay busy in the far-flung locations-beaches in Calatagan, Batangas, and hidden caves in Antipolo.
“There would be no cell phone signals or land lines, and the cast and crew would bond like one big happy family. We would take turns cooking or watching DVD films, or just napping outdoors. Joel Torre became my good friend,” says Rafael.
His girlfriend is model Wan Wan Reyes. They hosted the “Lovapalooza” kissing marathon in Davao in February.”
“My father taught us to follow our dreams. I guess I am living that dream right now, ” says Rafael. What would he like to do next ? “I would love to host a beauty pageant and have a talk show,” he says.
To stay in shape, and because he loves sisig and adobo, Rafael says he has to work out four times a week.
Outside of show biz, he manages a jewelry line called Glisk. “It’s made of silver, Murano glass and pearls,” he says. “Sales are really brisk. Snooky and Agot Isidro were my first customers. We sell in Rajo’s House of Laurel, Sonare Club Spa and Cladd on Morato.”
He likes being in business. “Math was my favorite subject in college,” he explains. “I love numbers.”

Prats started in Philippine show business at the tender age of 8 (in year 1992) as a child star in the now-defunct kiddie gag show “Ang TV”. At the dawn of the new millennium, Enrique Iglesias was the best-selling Latin recording artist in the world. The son of multimillion-selling singer Julio Iglesias, Enrique was born in Madrid, Spain, where he lived with his mother, his brother Julio, and his sister Chabeli. In 1982, his mother sent them to live in Miami with their father. While there, Enrique was exposed to three different cultures and musical influences — Hispanic, European, and American.
Iglesias’ own career started when he was still attending Gulliver Private School, a very prestigious school in Miami. The second album, Vivir (1997), enjoyed global sales of more than five million discs and launched his first world tour, backed by sidemen for Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, and Billy Joel. In a mere three years, Iglesias had sold more than 17 million Spanish-language albums, more than anyone else during that period. (The U.S. was his biggest market.) He also won the 1996 Grammy for Best Latin Performer, 1996’s Billboard Artist of the Year, Billboard’s Album of the Year for Vivir, two American Music Awards, a World Music Award, eight Premio Lo Nuestro Awards, two ACE Performer of the Year Awards, and ASCAP prizes for Best Composer of 1996 and 1997, in addition to countless accolades around the world.
With 1998’s Cosas del Amor, Iglesias moved to more mature content; his earlier material had been written when he was 17 years old. Then came Enrique, Enrique Iglesias’ first Interscope album and first in English, which achieved gold or platinum status in 32 countries and brought his global album sales to a total of more than 23 million. In 2001 he released the follow-up, Escape. Iglesias alternated Spanish- and English-language albums during the next two years, first offering the ballad collection Quiz嫳 in 2002, then the mainstream English record Seven in 2003.
